Official Notice: .TZ Expiry Window Now Only 7 Days (TCRA Registry Policy Update)

Dear DUHosting Client,

There’s an important change you need to know if you own a .TZ domain (example: biashara.co.tz, company.tz). TCRA has updated the .TZ Registry Policy, and the Registry has shortened the expiry grace period from 30 days to 7 days only.

That means: if your .TZ domain expires and you don’t renew fast, your website and email can go offline sooner than before.

What exactly changed?

Previously, most .TZ domains had a longer buffer after expiry (commonly treated as 30 days) before serious service interruption happened.

Now the expiry grace period is only 7 days.
After those 7 days, the domain can be moved out of active DNS, leading to service disruption.

Bottom line: You have less time to recover if you forget to renew.

Why this matters to your business

A domain is not just a name — it’s the foundation of your digital operations. When a domain goes inactive, it can affect:

  • Your website (customers can’t open it)

  • Your email (e.g., info@company.co.tz stops sending/receiving)

  • Systems and apps connected to the domain (portals, CRMs, payment links)

  • Trust & reputation (clients assume the business is unavailable)

With a 7-day window, downtime can happen fast — especially if renewal is delayed by internal approvals, payment timing, or missed reminders.

New .TZ expiry timeline (simple and clear)

Day 0: Domain expires
Day 1–7: Short grace period — renew immediately
After Day 7: Domain may be removed from active zone → website/email disruption may occur

How to protect your .TZ domain (DUHosting Best Practice)

1) Renew early (recommended)

Renew your .TZ domain at least 14 days before expiry.
This avoids last-minute issues and ensures continuity.

2) Keep renewal contacts up to date

Make sure your client account has:

  • the correct email address

  • active phone number

  • the right billing contact (so reminders reach the right person)

3) Don’t wait for the “old 30 days”

This is the biggest risk right now. Many businesses still assume there’s a long buffer.
There isn’t anymore — it’s 7 days.

4) Use multi-person reminders

If your domain is managed by a team, ensure at least 2 people receive renewal alerts (IT + Admin/Finance).

2) What happens after 7 days if I don’t renew?

Your domain can be moved out of the active DNS zone, which may cause your website and email to stop working.
